Where to go

Stuttgart's registration offices are the Bürgerbüros (citizens' offices). There are more than 20 across the city districts, from Mitte, Ost, Süd and West to Bad Cannstatt, Vaihingen and Zuffenhausen. It does not matter which district you live in. You can use any Bürgerbüro.

Some offices are temporarily closed. When checked, these were Feuerbach, Möhringen and Nord. Opening hours are set individually per office, so check the office page before you go.

Appointment or walk-in

  • Since 3 August 2026, the Bürgerbüros serve only customers with an appointment on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
  • At other times you can also come without an appointment, subject to capacity.
  • Book online through the city's Terminservice. Appointments can be booked for every Bürgerbüro.

Live waiting times

Stuttgart runs a live waiting-time traffic light for each Bürgerbüro at wartezeiten.stuttgart.de/bb. It only shows offices while they are open.

  • A red bar reading "Alle Wartemarken bereits vergeben" means all waiting tickets have been handed out for that office. Try another Bürgerbüro or another day.
  • If you already have an appointment, the red bar does not affect you.

Online registration

The Bürgerbüros page links to the federal online registration service (Wohnsitz an- und ummelden) and to an online tool for landlords to confirm your move-in (Wohnungsgeber-Bescheinigung). Online registration needs an activated eID and is for moves within Germany. New arrivals from abroad need to go in person. See the national guide.

English and phone help

The Bürgerbüros page is available in English and several other languages. The government service number 115 is available Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 18:00.
