Anmeldung in Düsseldorf: appointment-only Bürgerbüros
Last checked
This page only covers what is different in Düsseldorf. The rules, documents and deadlines are the same everywhere — see the national guide: Anmeldung.
Where to go
Düsseldorf's registration authority is the Einwohnermeldeamt (resident registration office). You deal with it at one of its eleven Bürgerbüros (citizens' offices) around the city. Written enquiries go to the Einwohnermeldeamt at Willi-Becker-Allee 7. Phone: 0211 89-90141.
Appointments only
Düsseldorf is strict: all services at the Bürgerbüros require an appointment booked in advance. Unlike Cologne or Frankfurt, there are no walk-in days.
- Book at termine.duesseldorf.de under Einwohnerangelegenheiten (resident matters) and choose "Anmeldung in Düsseldorf (pro Person)".
- You can select this service up to four times in one booking, so a family of up to four can register in one appointment.
- The booking page also lists other things you can do online or in writing without an appointment.
Online registration
Düsseldorf offers the online registration service (eWA). The city says it accepts the eID function of:
- a German ID card,
- an electronic residence permit (eAT), or
- an EU eID card.
Families can register together online if they were already linked in the register at their old address and move together. The service is for moves within Germany, so it doesn't work for a first registration after arriving from abroad. See the national guide.
Local details
- Registration is free in Düsseldorf.
- If you register in person, you can send a representative with your signed registration form and a written power of attorney.
- When you move to Düsseldorf from another German town, the office handles your deregistration there automatically.
