Anmeldung in Leipzig: walk in or book a Bürgerbüro
Last checked
This page only covers what is different in Leipzig. The rules, documents and deadlines are the same everywhere — see the national guide: Anmeldung.
Where to go
Leipzig's registration offices are the Bürgerbüros (citizens' offices). They handle registering and re-registering a home (An- und Ummeldung), among many other services. You can use any Bürgerbüro, whichever part of the city you live in. Locations include Otto-Schill-Straße (Zentrum-West), Paunsdorf-Center, Gohlis-Center, Leutzsch, Schönefeld, Ratzelbogen (Grünau), Wiedebach-Passage (Connewitz), Wiederitzsch and Liebertwolkwitz.
The offices are open Monday to Friday, and some also on Saturday. Leipzig also runs a mobile Bürgerservice. Check its page for where it stops.
Walk in or book
- No appointment needed. Leipzig says plainly that you can come to the Bürgerbüros without an appointment during opening hours.
- Check waiting times first. The city publishes current waiting times for each office online.
- Or book ahead. If you prefer a fixed time, use the booking page. New appointments are released Monday to Friday at 17:00.
Online registration
Leipzig lists online registration ("Wohnung an- oder ummelden") among its digital services. It uses the federal eWA portal, which needs an activated eID and is for moves within Germany. If you are arriving from abroad, go to a Bürgerbüro. See the national guide for the documents.
Other services you can do online in Leipzig include a registration certificate, and deregistration when you move abroad.
Support for newcomers
- The Leipzig city portal is available in English and several other languages.
- The Willkommenszentrum Leipzig (Welcome Centre) at Otto-Schill-Straße 2 offers walk-in orientation advice for newcomers, with free video interpreting.
