In shortIn Frankfurt you register at a Bürgeramt. You can use any of the 11 locations. On Mondays and Wednesdays the main Bürgerämter take walk-ins. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays you need an appointment. New appointments are released on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and all free slots are shown online, so phoning won't get you extra ones.

Where to go

Frankfurt's registration offices are the Bürgerämter (citizens' offices), run by the city's Bürgeramt, Statistik und Wahlen department. There are 11 locations, and each one serves all districts. You can go wherever is most convenient.

  • Main offices: Zentrales Bürgeramt (Zeil 3, city centre), Höchst, Nordwest, Dornbusch, Sachsenhausen, Nieder-Eschbach and Bergen-Enkheim.
  • Smaller branch offices (Außenstellen): Fechenheim, Kalbach, Harheim and Nieder-Erlenbach. These see people by appointment only.

Frankfurt's city portal lists a Bürgerbüro and a Bürgerberatung as well. Neither of them handles registration. The Bürgerberatung in the old town gives newcomers information and advice.

Walk-in days vs appointment days

At the main offices:

Day Access
Monday Walk-in (open consultation hours)
Tuesday Appointment only
Wednesday Walk-in (open consultation hours)
Thursday Appointment only
Friday Appointment only

On walk-in days, the city says it is especially busy just after opening, with long waits. If too many people are waiting, the office stops issuing tickets early. This happens most often and earliest in Höchst, Dornbusch and Sachsenhausen, but it can happen anywhere.

Booking an appointment

  • Book through the city's Terminservice (choose "Bürgeramt Frankfurt") or call 069 115.
  • New appointments are released on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
  • All available appointments are shown online. If none are free, calling will not help, because there are no extra slots.

Online registration

The Bürgerämter page links to the federal online registration service. It needs an activated eID and is meant for moves within Germany. If you are arriving from abroad, use a walk-in day or an appointment. See the national guide.

English support

The city portal has an English page for the Citizens' Offices and a translation tool. The appointment system is in German.
